Fashion & Clothing 👗👕

Clothing stores operate with seasonal collections: when new stock comes in, old items go on sale. Discounts during end-of-season sales can reach as high as 70%.

  • Late December - January/February: winter sales. Stores clear out their winter stock.
  • Late June - July/August: summer sales. Big discounts on summer collections.
  • March/April & September/October: mid-season sales. Shorter promotions, great for basics and often including sportswear.

Electronics & Gadgets 📱💻

Electronics deals are often tied to product launches.

  • Late January: big discount campaigns.
  • Late August/early September: back-to-school deals on laptops and tablets for students.
  • Spring: new TV models hit stores; previous models drop in price. New products are announced in January, and older stock is discounted between March and May.
  • November: Black Friday and Cyber Monday, the biggest sale events.

Travel & Holidays ✈️🏔️

Travel prices follow supply and demand. School breaks are expensive, but just outside of them, you’ll find the best deals.

  • January/February: early-bird discounts for summer holidays.
  • May/June: last-minute summer deals.
  • September/October: affordable city breaks and sun holidays. “Late summer” trips are often cheaper than peak-season ones.
  • Winter sports are cheapest off-peak: before Christmas and especially in early January.

Home & Household 🏠🛋️

Home stores have fixed clearance periods, often in January and July, to make room for new stock.

  • August - October: garden furniture and BBQs. End-of-season means the deepest discounts.
  • January and the summer months: major home clearance sales. October is also National Living Month, with extra deals.
  • November: appliances are often heavily discounted for Black Friday.

Holidays & Special Promotions 🎉

During holidays, retailers focus on gift promotions, often with targeted discounts.

  • Valentine’s (Feb): perfumes and jewelry.
  • Mother’s Day (May) & Father’s Day (June): beauty products, shavers, gadgets.
  • December: toys peak around Sinterklaas/Christmas. Remaining stock is often cheapest in January (think board games).

Smart Shopping Tips

  • Create a wish list and track current prices (to avoid fake discounts).
  • Set price alerts using tools and apps.
  • Set a budget. Decide in advance how much you’re willing to spend.
  • Plan ahead and wait for the right month to buy.

Timing is your secret weapon

Knowing when things go on sale helps you save money consistently. Whether you’re a student looking for budget fashion, a family planning holidays, or a gadget fan eyeing Black Friday, timing is your secret weapon.
